Ironically, this was not necessarily everyone’s first choice for the cover, but it was almost universally the second choice because of its crisp, dramatic action and the expressiveness of the subject. It is a difficult feat to achieve all of those qualities in one foal photo! The composition of the photo was unique in that the subject was not the center of the photo, the action and the eyes were the center of the photograph, and the photographer made good use of her depth of field. With the first choice for winner fairly evenly divided among the other photos, the universal second choice prevailed!
