Maryland Department of Agriculture Agricultural Inspector Daniel W. Mast Daniel W. Mast has worked as an Agricultural Inspector for the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Animal Health Section for the past three years. His main activities related to equine health are to inspect equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV) suspects, check proof of Coggins at Maryland fairs/shows and conduct field staff trainings. He is a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky in Lexington where he received a B.A. in Animal Science in 2006. Daniel’s interest in working with livestock and farmers is a result of being raised on a 100-acre tobacco farm in Southern Maryland where he also showed beef and sheep in 4-H at the local county fair. He currently helps his family with their 6-horse hitch of Clydesdales that they use for parades, weddings and for show. He currently is the National Animal Identification System (NAIS)/Poultry Premises Identification coordinator, the Maryland Fair and Show coordinator along with being responsible for after-hours, on-call and Emergency Response. Daniel also helps put together Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), animal health forms and performs numerous inspection duties. Other work related activities include being the MDA representative to the State Emergency Operations Center, an MDA Maryland Fair and Show Coordinator, webmaster and Animal Health Publications Coordinator. |
